Negotiation and Mediation training in Nottingham University

This summer, Nottingham Trent University (NTU) was abuzz with energy and enthusiasm as Nottingham Law School and The Negotiation Club collaborated to host an immersive three-day summer camp. The camp, aimed at equipping attendees with critical negotiation and mediation skills, was a resounding success, thanks to the dedicated efforts of all participants and organisers.

Day 1: Mastering Negotiation Skills with Philip Brown

The first day kicked off with a series of dynamic workshops focused on negotiation. Participants were introduced to innovative Negotiation Cards, which took centre stage and proved to be an engaging and effective tool for learning. These cards facilitated practical, hands-on exercises that allowed attendees to immerse themselves in realistic negotiation scenarios. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how the interactive approach enhanced their understanding and confidence in negotiation techniques.

Day 2: Exploring Mediation with Joy Davies

Day two was equally exciting as it marked the debut of a brand-new set of Mediation Cards. These cards were designed to simulate mediation processes, helping participants to navigate and resolve conflicts in a controlled environment. The Mediation Cards were a hit, providing a fresh and practical perspective on mediation. Joy Davies led the mediation workshops with expertise and passion, ensuring that everyone left with a deeper appreciation and knowledge of mediation practices.

Day 3: Mediation Case Study with Joy Davies

The final day of the camp was dedicated to a comprehensive mediation case study that brought together all the skills and practices from the previous days. Participants were divided into groups and given a complex case involving multiple parties with conflicting interests. Using both the Negotiation and Mediation Cards, attendees worked through the case, applying their negotiation and mediation skills to find a resolution. This hands-on exercise not only reinforced their learning but also demonstrated the real-world application of the techniques they had practiced. The case study was a highlight, showcasing the progress and competence of all participants.

Special Thanks

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who participated in this transformative event. A special mention must be made for Joy Davies, whose leadership in the mediation workshops was invaluable. Additionally, a heartfelt thanks to Phoebe Duterloo and Manayka Walia, both incredible Law Student whose organisational skills were instrumental in making this event a success.

Looking Ahead

The success of the Negotiation and Mediation Cards has set a new standard for our workshops, and we are excited to explore these tools further in future events. The Negotiation Club is committed to continuing its mission of bringing essential negotiation skills to individuals before they enter the professional world, recognising the immense value these skills hold.
