Negotiation cards and mediation cards help master negotiation and mediation skills.

Yesterday was a truly rewarding experience as I visited Nottingham Trent University Law School. An absolute pleasure delivering a full day negotiation workshop to an enthusiastic group of law students. These students immersed themselves wholeheartedly into the practice sessions and, of course, using the highly dynamic and engaging Negotiation Cards.

A lot of noise and a great deal of energy only made for an even more incredibly fulfilling day that highlighting their eagerness to refine their negotiation skills.

INTRODUCING Mediation Cards for Practice

I am thrilled to be back today but this time in support of the remarkable Lecturer Joy Davies. Joy is leading two days of mediation workshops, which promise to be equally, if not more, enriching. What sets these sessions apart is the introduction of ..... Mediation Cards!

Educational Card Games

These cards are designed to broaden the practice skills and opportunities from negotiation into mediation, providing a seamless transition and deeper understanding of both disciplines.

The connection between negotiation and mediation is profound. Negotiation skills form the foundation upon which effective mediation is built. Both require a deep understanding of interests, active listening, empathy, and the ability to craft solutions that meet the needs of all parties involved.

By incorporating the Mediation Cards into these workshops, we aim to enhance the students' ability to navigate the complexities of both negotiation and mediation, fostering a versatile skill set that is critical in the legal field.

Practicing Negotiation Skills and Mediation Skills Enhances Both.

A couple of key negotiation skills that are also essential for mastering #mediation:

Active Listening:

This skill is fundamental in both negotiation and mediation. Active listening involves fully concentrating, understanding, responding, and then remembering what is being said. It helps in building rapport and trust, which are crucial in reaching amicable solutions.... a skill you can PRACTICE!

Building Empathy:

Understanding and empathising with the other party’s perspective can significantly impact the outcome of negotiations and mediations. Empathy allows for better communication and facilitates a more collaborative approach to resolving disputes.... a skill you can PRACTICE

These skills not only support successful negotiations but are also instrumental in effective mediation. As we continue these workshops, it's my hope that students and professionals will embrace these skills and apply them in their future legal practices, becoming adept negotiators and mediators.

It's indeed a privilege to contribute to their journey toward becoming skilled professionals in the field of law and to bring these opportunities to a wide audience.
